Home stay

Living as a member of an English family is the best way of learning English. You will experience British life and culture and have many opportunities to practise your English.

All our host families are carefully inspected by us and only those who we think will care for the students as if they were part of their own family and who will provide them with a clean and comfortable home, with a quiet place to study, will be accepted. We expect our host families to eat their meals with you and to share their local knowledge of Devon with you.

In order that we make your stay as successful as possible, we ask you to let us know as much as possible about yourself and your needs. It is important to know whether you smoke, if you have any allergies or a medical condition or if you need a special diet. Your interests and hobbies are also important to us, so that we can try and find families with similar interests as yourself. The more you tell us, the better we can match you up with your host family! Many of our host families remain friends with their students. We do our utmost to meet your requirements.

Home stay accommodation does not only include traditional families. It may be a couple without children, an older but active person living alone or a single parent family.

It may be necessary, especially at peak times, to place more than one student in the same family or room, but we do not place students of the same nationality together. Students of different nationalities are encouraged to speak English between themselves.
However, if students of the same nationalities request to be together, then this is allowed.
If you prefer a single student placement then you can request it.

Your host family will either be walking distance from the school or you will take a short bus ride. Most families live no more than 20 minutes on foot or by bus from the school.

Each host family has a detailed handbook, which they can refer to where necessary and they know that they can contact us at any time day or night, should there be a problem.

Host Family accommodation: -

- Half-board accommodation – you will be provided with breakfast and evening meals during the week and a light lunch at weekends.
- Full-Board accommodation - You will also be provided with a packed lunch, during weekdays.
- The rooms are cleaned regularly, but it is the student’s responsibility to keep their room tidy.
- Bedding is changed weekly
- Light washing and laundry is done upon request
- Towels are provided, but not for the beach or swimming
